Russia Launches Cyber War Against Georgia

2008 August 12

Over the past several weeks, Russian hackers have been attacking government websites under the .ge domain. Online attacks have only intensified since the beginning of an all-out shooting war between the two nations several days ago.

The way these hackers are doing it is by routing traffic from compromised PCs (could be mine or yours) to flood these websites and crash the servers so that legitimate traffic can not reach their destinations.

The Washington Post has said, “the Caucasus Network Tbilisi — key Georgian commercial Internet servers — remain under sustained attack from thousands of compromised PCs aimed at flooding the sites with so much junk Web traffic that they can no longer accommodate legitimate visitors.”

This has been called an all out cyber war. God help the Georgians and forgive the Russians.
